Head Start is Home

CaShawn attended Head Start as a young child in the 1970s. As an adult mother of two, she left an abusive relationship and set out to start a new life – at Head Start.

Helping Hands

Kim had a high-risk pregnancy, and her son faced a life-threatening health challenge during infancy. At their most dire moment as a family, Head Start staff reached out to provide support at the hospital and at home.

Rebuilding Hope

Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico in 2017. The Head Start program in San Sebastian provided much needed support and resources for area families in the immediate aftermath of the destruction.

Feeding Love

The only Head Start in the small town of Cuthbert, Georgia was forced to close during COVID-19, which meant that many of the children would miss out on daily meals. So, the staff developed a plan to bring food to the families in the community.

Beginning Again

Missy is a bilingual home visitor for Early Head Start who helped a refugee family overcome language and educational barriers to find a new home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Recovering Confidence

Cami struggled with substance use and was sentenced to prison shortly after her son was born. After her release, she found community and support in Head Start giving her the skills she needed to be a first-time parent.
